Gae(tana) Aulenti

The architect Gae Aulenti was born in 1927 in Aulenti, Italy. In 1954 she graduated from the Milan Polytechnic Faculty of Architecture and has been in private practice since then. Later, after receiving her doctorate, she taught at the Venice Faculty of Architecture from 1960 to 1962 and in Milan from 1964 to 1967. She also spent three years working with Luca Roncini in Florence. Since 1974 she has been on the board of directors of Lotus International and has worked with Fiat and Olivetti.

Between 1980 and 1986, she re-designed the Musee d'Orsay in Paris, France, which was nominated as one of the most important works in the previous three years by the International Union of Architects. Her other works include the Palazzo Grassi in Venice, Italy (1985), Museo del'Arte Catalana in Barcelona, Spain (1985) and the Pirelli Offices in Rome, Italy (1986).
