Larrocha, Alicia de (1923- ), Spanish pianist, known for her masterful performances of classical and Spanish music. Born in Barcelona, she was a child prodigy and pursued an international career after 1947; she has performed in the U.S. and Canada regularly since 1965. Her interpretations emphasize the lively, crisp rhythms of Spanish composers such as Isaac Albéniz and Enrique Granados and the formal elegance of classical-era composers. In 1959 she became director of the Marshall Academy in Barcelona.
