Barbara Longhi was born in 1552 in Ravenna, Italy. She was a daughter of the painter Luca Longhi. She painted primarily religious images notable for their subtle color and human interaction. The paintings typically show a background of a distant landscape visible behind a partially drawn drape. Longhi painted several Madonna and Child pictures depicting Madonna's warm relationship with the infant. Not much is known about Barbara Longhi, but she was deemed important enough to be mentioned by Giorgio Vassari, a noted Italian painter and biographer. Barbara Longhi died in 1638.
