The ceramic designer Clarice Cliff was born in 1899 in Tunstall, Staffordshire, England. She attended art schools in Tunstall and in Burslem and then set up her design studio at Wilkinson's Newport Showroom. She developed a unique style of richly colored pottery with bold designs and abstract patterns. Her work from the 1930's, marketed under the name 'Bizarre,' was especially influential to other artists.
