Franklin, Rosalind Elsie (1920-58), British biophysicist. Born in London, she was educated in physical chemistry at Newnham College, Cambridge. Franklin conducted X-ray diffraction studies on the structure of the DNA molecule, the carrier of hereditary information, while working in the laboratory of British biophysicist Maurice Wilkins.
